2008 Campaign
Message from 2008 United Way of Midland Campaign Chair, David ONeil
We live in a great philanthropic community where many LIVE UNITED by giving their time, talents and resources to change lives each and every day.
Living United means to recognize and address the needs many face in our city. When the Campaign kicked-off in September of 2008, the rising cost of housing, transportation, childcare, medical needs and food had begun to put significant strains on working individuals and families. Far too many of our neighbors began making decisions most of us have never imagined.
This increased strain caused program providers to see a rise in requests for services. Not only are they seeing more clients, but their delivery costs of providing those services have also escalated, making it even more difficult to meet those needs. As a result, United Way was anticipating an increase in funding requests from current and prospective program providers. Working with the United Way staff and volunteers, we let the community know that giving to United Way is the most effective way to change lives because when you give, your contribution touches more than one life.
It is my pleasure to report that the 2008 campaign total reached $3,300,625. Whether in a boom or a bust, leaders led and givers gave. While serving as the 2008 United Way of Midland Campaign Chair, I was humbled by the wonderful giving nature of our community. Midland defines Living United.
I enjoyed working with our Loaned Executives, Account Executives, United Way Staff and numerous volunteers. Their dedication, commitment and energy have been an inspiration to me and a blessing to our program providers and those that they serve.
Thank you Midland for your continued support of United Way and I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to be a small piece of the team as we go about changing and improving the lives of others.
God Bless.
