United Way of Midland is working to advance the common good by focusing on education, self-sufficiency and health. These are the building blocks for a good life - a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health.

Our goal is to create long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place.

We invite you to be a part of the change. Together, united, we can inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow.

That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED.

United Way of Midland Kicks Off 2010 Campaign

On Tuesday, August 24 at Centennial Plaza, United Way of Midland staff, community partners and volunteers joined together to begin the 2010 Campaign.

"At any given moment - day or night- your United Way is helping to make a difference in the life of a friend, coworker or neighbor. United Way currently funds 50 programs that make a difference in the areas of education, self-sufficiency and health. United Way touches one in every 3 lives in Midland . By collaborating with over 45 community organizations, committees and programs, we can tackle long-term issues that help individuals and families not only survive - but thrive.

There is no time like the present to make a difference! I ask that you share United Way's purpose with your co-workers, families and friends - United Way identifies community needs and funds programs that address those needs - share this with them and invite them to join us in our campaign to change Midland for good. The clock is ticking!"

Steve Gray, United Way of Midland Resource Development Vice Chair

United Way of Midland Announces Funding of
Collaborative Effort to Keep Kids in School

On August 31 United Way of Midland announced the recipients of the 2010 Community Initiative Grant.

In November 2009, United Way revealed the details of a new funding opportunity - Community Initiative Grants. A requirement of this funding is that three or more entities must collaborate to address issues at their root cause and work together to accomplish more than any single group can do on its own.

For the 2010 Community Initiative Grant cycle, United Way of Midland approved the designation of $200,000 to be distributed over two years for a collaboration that addresses the issue of students successfully completing high school and graduating. This program is called "The Whole Child." Collaborative partners include: Communities In Schools, Rays of Hope and the MISD Office of Accountability.

Lifetime Gifts Matter
United Way of Midland’s commitment to care for our community continues far beyond the needs of this year or this generation. An endowed or planned gift to United Way is an investment in our future. Planned gifts assure that we will continue making Midland strong and healthy for our children and our grandchildren. Your generosity to future generations can also benefit you and your family. Most planned gifts result in immediate tax deductions, estate tax savings and some result in investment income for the donor. But most importantly, your gift ensures that your compassion makes a difference today and extends beyond tomorrow.
Investing in Midland’s Future
Your gift enables United Way to maintain a margin of excellence in what it does best: assessing community needs and providing community solutions, by addressing root causes. For more information on how you can leave a legacy through a planned gift, please contact Cynthia Benson or Kathye Taylor at 432-685-7700 at the United Way of Midland.
